What is this service?

The Children's Occupational Therapy Service is committed to providing a child and family centred needs led service in the most appropriate setting to support individual children and their families. The aim of Occupational Therapy is to promote functional independence in all aspects of daily life.

 

Who is this service for?

The service is available to children resident in Stockport aged 0 years to school leaving age (16 or 19 years). Assessment, advice and treatment is provided for children with a broad range of difficulties including:

  • Physical disabilities
  • Perceptual-motor difficulties
  • Learning disabilities
  • Complex multiple disabilities
  • Psycho-social problems
  • Sensory Processing Problems

How to request the service?

A child may be referred to the service at any stage, when concern has been expressed by parents/carers, school staff, school nurses, educational psychologists, doctors (community/hospital) and health visitors.

Please contact the service on 0161 419 4342 and request a referral form. This must be fully completed and parental permission sought before a referral can be accepted.

When is the service available?

The Occupational Therapy Service will provide assessment of the need for therapy.Based on assessment findings, intervention may be provided on an individual or group basis.Occupational Therapy may also be implemented in the form of advice to parents/carers/teachers.

The service is available Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Where is the service available?

The Occupational Therapists work in a variety of settings namely:

  • Tree House Children's Centre
  • The Children's Therapy Centre (Beckwith House)
  • The child's home
  • Mainstream/Resourced/Special schools
  • Nurseries (mainstream and integrated)
