Children's Equipment and Adaptations Service 

What is this service?

An established service funded by Social Services and the Primary Care Trust. It works in close partnership with Housing, Education and Social Care and links in to many other agencies to provide an effective integrated equipment and adaptation service to children with disabilities/special needs. Specialist Occupational Therapist and Support Staff provide advice and/or assess for equipment and/or adaptations that would address difficulties of daily living in the home e.g. Access, Bathing, Toileting and Seating.

Who is this service for?

Children with physical disabilities and/or special needs who require an assessment for any adaptations or equipment in their own homes.

How to request the service

  • Written referral form available from the Children’s Equipment and Adaptations Service.
  • By telephone.
  • In person.

Referrals are taken from anyone who feels a child (0-18) may benefit from an assessment.

When is the service available?

Currently there is only a short waiting list (12 weeks approximately). Initially information and advice is given over the phone where appropriate and then referral is prioritised as accurately as possible.

Where is the service available?

Children are visited within their own homes, or may be seen at school in joint working with other therapists.
